How this channel works

The access question is the one that separates these products. Apple Messages for Business is the official route, and it is invite-only, inbound-only, and closed to new partners, Poke was the first independent AI agent approved on it. Everything else reaches iMessage through a managed API provider or a Mac running the Messages app as a bridge, which is why so many of these listings are US-first and why some of them show a green SMS bubble rather than a blue one when they message an Android phone.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. Blue means the thread has read receipts, typing indicators, tapbacks, high-quality media and in-thread Apple Pay, which is still exclusive to Apple-to-Apple conversations and is not available over RCS. Green means SMS, with none of it. An agent that promises rich interaction and falls back to SMS is a different product on an Android phone than on an iPhone, and very few say so up front.

The other thing worth watching is how the second person joins. Agents that live in an existing group thread cost nothing to add, the other people are already there. Agents that require an app download ask every participant to install something before the product works at all.
