What separates Arlo and Instinct
Arlo reads Gmail, Slack, Notion, Linear and a CRM, works across more than 3,000 integrations, operates tools with no API through a browser login, and states that it asks approval before anything consequential goes out. Instinct is a general agent whose defining choice is acting without waiting for confirmation, and whose valuation rose roughly fivefold in weeks to $2.5 billion on $350 million raised.
The most frequently cited complaint about Instinct is the direct consequence of its design: "it acted without asking me." It also reportedly struggles with concurrent tasks in a single thread. Arlo's conservatism has the opposite cost, which is that it interrupts you at every boundary.
There is a practical asymmetry too. Arlo publishes a policy page that explicitly refuses to summarise itself, saying a paraphrase of a legal text is not the legal text. Instinct's site is one page and a waitlist, it is invite-only, and its company and founder are named only in the privacy policy it put up on 26 August. If you are weighing an agent that acts unilaterally, the amount it tells you about itself is part of the decision.
