Been using Instinct more. Today it booked a Barrys class for me based on my schedule, without me having to do anything aside from giving my Barrys login. Instructed it to change it from floor to treadmill, and now it will remember that preference. It also recommended I go to a party and somehow found the Luma invite for me from online, but remembered the timing for launch, so recommended that I only go for the first hour (sorry @sunilchhaya and @sriramkri)

I’ve been testing both Muse and Instinct. Here’s my current use cases: Instinct is my personal executive assistant calendar management email triage staying on top of stuff with kids meal planning. All my life shit. Muse is my place for all things related to social media. Having that Meta backing is hard to beat for this. Right now it’s handling organizing, basic editing, and analysis for my AI IG account. Also using it for my personal shopping because it can use bookmarks and IG search in a really efficient way. I basically did a full wardrobe refresh yesterday after it did a style and color analysis. Then it identified and helped me buy pieces I felt were missing in my closet. It was pretty awesome. I have invites for both so let me know if you’re still waiting.

Hot take: Instinct can’t escape its enormous valuation because: 1) it’s not hard to build thanks to AI. I am building a similar tool, it watches their twitter and queues up new features to stay at parity 2) there is maybe no moat here. If they had years of head start maybe but @bot and @Muse are already here and already great. 3) founders should think deeply about what this means for their business

I agree today, but consider: 1. They’re heavily capitalized. 2. They have the network and relationships, with VCs & co shilling them hard. 3. They’re the easiest to set up and use. My non-techie friends love it because they don’t want to install or configure Hermes/OpenClaw/Grokbot/Muse. It just works over messages. 4. Many hate Elon/Zucky for various reasons and would never use their products. (I’m a fan of both, just relaying) 5. None of my friends want to give Zucky more of their data 6. It’s free (for now). Instinct could still make money on targeted tasteful partnerships/ads and keep it free indefinitely Google might be best positioned here, if they wake up.

I had it go through my entire email last night and unsubscribe me from dozens of promotions and it only used around 10% of the free token budget But Instinct is also really good and didn’t need to pay Alex Wang a billion dollars to get there. And what happens when $GOOG releases their version? Being the first mover isn’t much of an advantage anymore. Nonetheless Meta Connect will be exciting to see in 2 weeks and expectations are very high for Watermelon

This is definitely _their_ bet. I was playing with Muse last night (its a very well designed product) and thinking about the economics. Right now, you get a 2vcpu, 8 gig ram, 100gb disk linux machine FOR FREE. While it idles when your agent is not in use, retail rates for an equivalently sized droplet or vultr box is ~$40 - $50 per month. This doesn't include the AI usage you get as well. Their two other paid plans for additional usage are $16 and $80 per month respectively which are cheapo. This loss leader approach is how meta clearly anticipates taking on GrokBok and Instinct, etc. The big question is will consumers bite?

What separates Instinct and Muse

Instinct is a general agent you text on iMessage that acts without waiting for confirmation, invite-only, with $1.35 billion raised, most recently at a $10 billion valuation, and no public site beyond a waitlist. Muse is Meta's, and it arrives inside the account that already holds your social graph, the posts you have interacted with and your Marketplace history. Four things separate them, and none is the model.

What it already knows

Instinct starts from an empty memory and asks for access one connector at a time. Muse starts inside the account: one user built himself a swipe-to-unfollow tool for Instagram in two minutes, and it worked because the agent was already logged in.

What it is allowed to do

Instinct gave every agent an email address of its own and shipped an agent-to-agent protocol, the most autonomous behaviour recorded in this directory, and the reason a predictable address at its mail domain became a published prompt-injection route four days later. Muse's reach is the graph: one user exported his full Instagram follower list and then each follower's followers, which Grok Bot refuses on X, so that is a policy choice rather than a limit.

Who trains on your messages

Neither reads comfortably. Instinct's policy, public since 26 August, says conversations train its models unless you opt out, and the opt-out is forward-looking. Muse's says the same, with a switch in settings, and the company behind it sells advertising: its own security write-up says the site you send Muse to buy from may use the visit to show you an ad on Instagram.

What it costs

Instinct publishes no price. Muse's page says free for most of what people need and names no figure for the plans above it. A user put his own number on Instinct at five to ten thousand dollars a month, calling it a chief of staff with an MBA; the company charges nothing.
